On March 22 and 23, Krashna Musika will revive an old tradition: we will perform the St Matthew Passion once more! Under the baton of Ruben de Grauw, Krashna will be able to shine with a full student choir and orchestra in the Maria van Jessekerk in Delft. In collaboration with eight professional soloists and a children's choir, this promises to be another great success!
The St Matthew Passion is an old work, but still extremely relevant. The story of Jesus' last days touches on timeless themes of love, faith, and loss. Every year this inspires countless performances of the piece and continues to fill concert halls and churches. Krashna Musika wants to make this unforgettable experience accessible for all members of the society. We try to involve everyone in the performances, in part by making the ticket price affordable. Moreover, at the concerts Krashna will collaborate with children's choir Kooracademie Breda and soloists Marjolein Kolkert (soprano), Florieke Beelen (alto), Koen Masteling (tenor), Michiel Meijer (bass), Georgie Sztoyanov (Evangelist) and Wessel Wirken (Christ).
The Maria van Jessekerk is located in the heart of Delft. The rich interior of the church includes impressive murals, stained glass windows and a monumental organ. The acoustics of the church also ensure that the St Matthew Passion can be done full justice. This makes the church especially suitable for beautiful performances of Krashna, a musical association from Delft.
Krashna Musika is the student music association of the TU Delft. Orchestra and choir rehearse weekly on Monday and Wednesday evenings under the batons of conductors Stijn Berkouwer (orchestra) and Ruben de Grauw (choir). Last summer Krashna even won the broadcasting award “Het Leukste Studentenorkest van Nederland” by Avrotros! With many enthusiastic and talented members, Krashna is routinely able to give beautiful concerts. Since the beginning of this year, choir and orchestra in unison have been working hard on the St Matthew Passion.
