Choir and Orchestra

The symphony orchestra rehearses every Monday evening from 19;30 until 22:30 in Room 232 of the Cultural Centre on Mekelweg 10. It is conducted by Daan Admiraal.

Krashna's choir, composed of around 50 members, rehearses every Wednesday from 19:30 to 22:00, also in Room 232 at the Cultural Centre. Gilles Michels is the conductor.

The repertoire for both orchestra and choir is mainly classical, but modern pieces are also done. In many cases, the orchestra performs its own work and accompanies the choir. The choir has also performed a capella works.

Concerts are given in and around Delft, three times a year. In January 2008, Krashna will perform Brahms' A German Requiem in both Delft and The Hague. This is followed in April with a tour to Germany and Denmark, where Krashna will be performing Mozart's Requiem and Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2.

Concerts

Concerts are given three times a year in and around Delft, for example, in The Hague, Rotterdam, or Leiden. Orchestra and choir regularly go on a tour, to France in 2003 and Hungary in 2006. For Krashna's 40th anniversary, a tour is planned in Spring 2008 to Hamburg (Germany) and Copenhagen (Denmark).

In January 2007 a special programme of Dutch post-war compositions was performed. It was selected by orchestra conductor Daan Admiraal, to celebrate his 25th year with Krashna. For this occasion, a work was especially written for him by the famous Dutch composer Chiel Meijering. The choir sang Invocations, a modern work by Ton de Leeuw (1926-1996). In March 2007, Bach's St. John's Passion was also performed by the choir in the Old Church in Delft, accompanied by a chamber orchestra.

In June of the same year, the orchestra played Mahler's Symphony No. 5 while the choir performed with Motets by Bruckner and Schicksalslied by Brahms.

The repertoire line-up for the 2007-2008 academic year is also very ambitious. Rehearsals have begun on A German Requiem by Brahms, which will be performed in January 2008. This is also a joint project with Collegium Musicum, the student choir from Leiden. In the same concert, the orchestra will play Schönberg's Variations for Orchestra and Webern's Opus 1.

This is followed with Krashna going on tour to Hamburg and Copenhagen, playing Mozart's well-known Requiem and Rachmaninov's Symphony No.2. The same repertoire will also be performed in Delft on April 22, 2008.
