On Saturday, 1st of May, the "Music Worlds" festival will take place at the Culture building of Delft University of Technology. From 10 - 18 h, there will be public masterclasses, workshops, small concerts, lectures and more.

Classical Music Masterclasses
Subscription for active participation has closed - however, you can walk in for free as a listener during the masterclasses and listen to the useful tips of our teachers. Our piano teacher is Han-Louis Meijer, pianist and conservatoire teacher in The Hague. The string teacher is Ruben Sanderse, viola player and chamber music teacher at the Woudschoten summer course. The winds teacher is René Pagen, French horn player in the Residentie Orchestra and a teacher of the famous Orlando Festival. And last but not least, our singing teacher is Carina Vinke, a successful alt/mezzo soloist.

Masterclasses take place from approximately 10.15 - 15.30 h. The piano masterclass will be in room 119, the strings masterclass in room 230, the winds masterclass in room 239 and the singing masterclass in room 234. A full schedule with details for each of the masterclass students will be on display in the building on Saturday.

World music festival workshops and other activities
As for world music activities, you are welcome to join the following activities:

  • World Ballads, a lecture by Paul Beekhuizen.
    12.30 - 13.30 h in room 118
Lecture about how ballads travelled around the world. In this lecture, the journey of these ballads is followed. Paul will tell about how these ballads changed from culture to culture and how they finally came home. This lecture will be illustrated by different sound examples.
  • Latin American Music, a workshop by students from the Tilburg conservatoire.
    10.30 - 11.30 h and 14.30 - 15.30 h in room 240
Interactive workshop in which you will learn about several Latin American Music styles (think of samba and rumba). You are very welcome to bring your own instruments to this workshop.
  • Minimal Music, a workshop by students from the Tilburg conservatoire.
    11.45 - 12.45 h and 13.15 - 14.15 h in room 240
Did you ever realise that less can be more in music? In this workshop, you'll learn to make music with a minimum amount of musical material! Once again, you may freely bring own instruments to this workshop.
  • Djembé percussion, a workshop by Omar Seck.
    11.30 - 12.30 h in room 232
In this introductory workshop, the basics of playing the djembé are explained. Omar will demonstrate how to play the djembé with different rhythms. With the available djembé's, the audience will actively take part in the music.
  • Jazz? World Music!, a lecture/workshop by Wim Ninaber and Ruud Bergamin.
    12.30 - 14.30 h in room 232
In this combination of a lecture, a demonstration and a workshop, Wim and Ruud will tell about jazz music and its origin. With live examples played on their two saxophones, the ideas of the lecture will be illustrated. In the workshop part, the audience will actively participate in the music. For this, once again you are kindly invited to bring your own instruments to this workshop.
  • Kecak, a workshop by Renadi Santoso.
    14.00 - 14.30 h and 15.00 - 15.30 h in room 118
Kecak is a form of Balinese music drama, traditionally performed by male chorus, with characteristic interleaving rhythms and voice techniques, making the chorus almost sound like a gamelan percussion ensemble. At the workshops given by Renadi at our Music Worlds Festival, both men and women will have the chance to interactively get to know this exciting and exotic music style!

Next to that, there will be a continuous open stage. Here, you can hear performances by local groups with a.o. traditional Irish music. If you want to play on this open stage too, feel free to do so!

A closing concert will start at 16 h in room 232. Here, both the classical music masterclass teachers, several workshop teachers and students and some local groups will be playing. After the concert, you will be able to have an informal drink with us till 18 h.

The 2009-2010 activities of the Chamber Music department of Krashna Musika are kindly supported by Dol's Muziekhandel in Delft.
